If you call me Mrs. Mick Racklin, you're a telemarketer who didn't learn phonetics.

If you call me Ruth, you're just about everybody who met me after I was 16, or thereabouts.

If you call me R'thAnn, you're a member of my birth family--maybe my dad, or a cousin, or my mother come back just to see if I believe it's her.

If you call me Ruth Ann, you were one of my teachers or an old class-mate, or one of the secretaries in my old department who thought it was cute for some reason--she emphasized the Ann wrong, though.

If you call me Shee, you're a re-incarnation of my little brother when he first learned to talk--we never figured out where he got it, but he insisted on it for quite a while.

If you call me Woofie or Woof, you're my sweet frog-prince of a husband.

If you call me Mother, you're my son's young self; he calls me Mom, now. I was never a Mommy. Some of the nieces and nephews call me Aunt Ruth, but I wasn't sure I'd like that--my Aunt Ruth is not my favorite person (I was named for my mother and grandmother, thankyouverymuch!)--so the older ones tend to call me R'thAnn. My other brother (not the "little" one) calls me Hey, Sis these days.

If you call me Magical Moof, you're my former boy-friend, Good Ol' Steve, who did have a few qualities to recommend him.

If you call me Ruthie, you're probably my friend Gurry, who is married to my friend Jean, who calls me nothing--when we run into each other, we just start talking, y'know? My old lab partner Holly called me Roof--Jean, Holly and I were a Fearsome Threesome for a few years in the early 80's--we all attended the others' weddings, and Holly even hosted mine.

If you call me Mouse, you're my friend ShortTurtle or her husband the truck-driving poet (or one of my Pogo friends, where I'm A Nonny Mouse). Many of my local friends know of my mousely nature, and refer to me that way, too, although not usually as a name, precisely. At least they do it fondly! Don't they?

If you know me as Mousefeathers, you met me here, on one specific mail list, or in Chatropolis. Don't ask. I don't really spend time there. Honest.

If you call me Sweetie, Chickie or Toots, or My Friend, you're one of my special fellas, on whom I bestow many thankful kisses and hugs for their wonderfulness.

Gee, I didn't think I had many names.
