I've been out of work since the end of September; I didn't have enough time on my last job to qualify for unemployment until this month, so we've had no income from me of any description since then, and the payments I will get would only last 13 weeks. Don's health has been fragile for the past couple years, and he can't walk for more than a few minutes without getting too tired to stand up. The only thing that's kept us going is that his hospitalizations and medications are covered (mostly) by his insurance at work.
He just called: the warehouse is crawling with company brass, and the solid rumor has them closing all St. Louis operations by March 31.
Edit: It's official. The union will negotiate a severance package, but as unions go, it's a truly pathetic one, so he doesn't have much hope for anything useful from THEM. The company brought in a team to help with finding new jobs, and apparently the person he talked to doesn't think his case is HOPELESS, but we'll have to see about that part. They will extend insurance coverage at their expense for a while, but we think their definition of "a while" is probably one month. We would be getting to the zero-dollar copays on his meds around then, too., dammit--their out-of-pocket limit is $500/year, and we run through that in three months. Of course, we have to come up with that co-pay right NOW, when we don't have any money to spare. I don't even want to think about what it might be like in April or May.
I am so tired of this....
