Come on in, the water's fine!
Mar. 13th, 2007 07:22 amI'm not sure what to think--not only did I start a new job last week in a research lab!, but my husband interviewed for an inside sales job at a bushings manufacturer yesterday, and they wanted him to start this week!
*blink*
The money isn't overly generous for either of us, but it should take care of the bills, and my benefits are great. My boss is a young MD starting his first lab (where've I heard that before?); he has two years of departmental funding to try to get grants. It's in the nephrology department at the other major medical school here in St. Louis, with the lab actually situated at the VA Medical Center. I still have to clear the gummint's hoops just for the privilege of walking through their doors every day, but it's a "non-sensitive" position, and I presume they won't expect The Weird to litter the floors or contaminate the vets. No reading LJ during the day, though--the VA has standards, after all!
The company Donald will be working for isn't large, but it is the largest manufacturer of its kind in the world. He's known who they are most of his adult life, and said so in his cover letter when he faxed his resume to them last Thursday. He actually interviewed with the owner yesterday--age and beard (we got tired of paying for razor blades last fall) weren't an issue at all--the boss is older than my dad. Don will actually start with them in two weeks, so he can get some doctor's appointments out of the way, give his current employer one more week (at a supervisor's request--he was supposed to be done last Friday), and we can go down to Fort Leonard Wood to see our son, who will graduate from basic training at the end of next week.
Who'd a thunk it? 2007 looks like it might just be OK. Finally.
